More than 135 merit badges exist for Scouts to choose from spanning a variety of subjects including art, business, culture, nature, sports, science, and technology. A Scout must work with a qualified counselor to complete the steps and requirements for a badge. Once the badge is earned, it will be sewn to the Scout’s merit badge sash to permanently display their hard work and expertise.

For example, the Inventing merit badge gives Scouts the opportunity to learn how to turn their ideas into reality.
